5 Margarita Recipes You Need to Try for Cinco de Mayo

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Little known fact: This holiday commemorates Mexico’s surprising victory over France in an 1862 battle. Since then, Cinco de Mayo has become a catchall for enjoying margs, tacos, and guac (even if it does cost extra).

Cinco de Mayo is the perfect excuse to get your friends over for good food and drinks. Making a pitcher of restaurant-quality margs is deceptively easy. Demitri’s makes premium Margarita Mixes with all-natural ingredients and no preservatives, gluten, or high-fructose corn syrup. To get a winning margarita, just combine margarita mix, an agave-based liquor, and fun add-ons (like fresh juice or garnish). Check out these five margarita variations to celebrate!

  • The Maleficent
  • May’s recipe of the month is The Maleficent, but this recipe is anything but evil. It’s a spring-forward take on the traditional margarita that brightens up any table. It perfectly complements Mexican-inspired fare, from fresh tortillas to fish tacos to the perfect salsa sampler.

    Ingredients:

2 ounces fresh cucumber juice (strained through a fine mesh strainer if making your own)
2 ounces Demitri’s Organic Margarita Mix or 38 Calorie Mix
2 ounces tequila or mezcal (Check out these tips for choosing the right spirit)
    Demitri’s Margarita Salt (optional)
    Lemon wheel

    Directions:

Add juice, mix, and spirit to a shaker tin. Add ice and shake. Strain over fresh ice, and garnish with a lemon wheel.

  • Spicy Jalapeño Margarita
  • Swap out the cucumber juice for muddled jalapeños to bring the heat. If you have leftover cucumber slices, they will cool the spice and look great as a garnish.

  • Grapefruit Margarita
  • Add two ounces of fresh grapefruit juice to your base recipe in this nod to the margarita’s ultra-refreshing cousin, the paloma.

  • Pinarita
  • What says “spring is here” more than a fresh pineapple on a warm day? Blend and strain your pineapple for a tart marg that tastes like vacation. In a hurry? Grab some already juiced from the market, and add it to the bar cart!

  • Calirita
  • Love the taste of triple sec but looking for more citrus and less sweet? Elevate your margarita by adding a few ounces of fresh squeezed lime, lemon, and orange juice instead.

We hope these margarita ideas have you feeling inspired to get creative with your Cinco de Mayo margaritas, and throughout the whole summer!  As always, tag us on Instagram so we can see what you come up with!
