May Bloody Mary of the Month: Flavor-Loaded Vegan Mary

May Bloody Mary of the Month: Flavor-Loaded Vegan Mary

A great thing about the Bloody Mary is how easy it is to customize—whether you want a lot of spice, extra horseradish, spirit free or otherwise. With that said, there is one ingredient that makes the typical Bloody Mary not vegan or vegetarian friendly: Worcestershire sauce, which contains anchovies or some rendition of fish sauce.

For this reason, Demitri’s created a Vegan Bloody Mary Seasoning that doesn’t contain anchovies, yet has the same complex seasonings you expect in a Bloody Mary. The recipe uses a vegan Worcestershire that still has the tangy, salty, slightly sweet, umami flavor that makes a Bloody Mary, well, a Bloody Mary.

Whether you’re whipping up a solo vegan beverage or a big batch for the BBQ, this recipe means that everyone gets to partake. BARTENDER TIP: Keep a bottle of the vegan seasonings behind the bar in addition to our traditional seasoning, creating ease to accommodate the guest AND the barkeep.

Stay Vegan Mary

Ingredients:
2 ounces vodka
1.5 ounces Demitri’s Vegan Bloody Mary Seasoning
3-4 ounces tomato juice
Ice
Optional garnish ideas: pickles, peppadew pepper, fresh citrus, marinated tofu slice (marinate it in the seasoning and thank us later!)

Directions:
Combine ingredients in a shaker. Add ice. Pour the tin back and forth, until the mixture is chilled. Pour into a Collins glass or double-rocks glass. Garnish heavily for extra snacks.

With the unofficial (but definitely official) start of grilling season coming up, this Vegan Bloody Mary Seasoning also comes in clutch for cooking. Use it in a dipping sauce for corn on the cob or in a vegan Caesar dressing.
